One of our airplane friends in Atlanta invited us to an event at the Atlanta Motorsports Park to introduce kids to racing via go karts (Junior Discover Experience). The event entails educating kids about basic kart control, a short slalom session weaving cones, followed by some hot laps around a track playing follow the leader with an instructor kart. The facility is extremely nice and the event well run. It is a nice way to see if driving a kart is something of interest without buying one first. They provided drinks and snacks along with helmet socks, helmets, and suits. We got lucky enough to use Bill Elliott’s private strip located just to the north of the facility. When we landed there was a rather long snake slithering across the runway that I thought we ran over. Either way when I looked back after taxi, it had slithered back the direction it came from and disappeared into the grass on the side of the runway. A short car ride to the track and the event began. Don’t be late as the event is run on a tight schedule.

09GE – Elliott Field. The near approach end has a very serious slope on it that can only be seen from while on the ground.

One of many hangars on field. No bathroom accessible during our short visit.
Getting fitted to the kart.

Ready for some laps around the track.
