Brief Description:Back to Oregon goes this crate!
After Vans packaged and re-shipped the materials that were damaged in the original empennage shipment the second box came in even worse condition. I discovered that if you accept a damaged crate you will get caught in a claim that takes substantial time, effort, pictures, and emails to solve (2 months later still no resolution from the first damaged crate) but if you REFUSE the shipment it heads back to where it came and you have only lost the time it took for the shipment to get to you and then back to the shipper. That said I got out my trusty screw gun and took the top off the crate as I could see both pine sides were split into two. When I removed the top the remaining portion of the box fell into two pieces. Not looking good for the F-1073L bottom fuse skin. Sure enough it had a ripple in it at the aft end. I put the screws back in the box top and away it went in the Old Dominion truck. The crate clearly has a top and a bottom (as indicated by the arrows on the side) yet some of the screw on the top were bent and sanded down from being dragged on the concrete.
Never made it off the truck!
Screws from the top of crate bent and sanded down.
