The kids had never been to a concert before so I figured Imagine Dragons would be a great opportunity to take them to a show. The nearest venue was in Atlanta so I invited Atlanta RV-10 buddies to join us for the event. We planned to fly up and back same day. While flying up there the front that was coming through picked up a bit of speed and got to our destination airport faster than we could. We had originally planned to land just to the north of Hartsfield but decided to divert to Hartsfield instead. After a short discussion with the controller we got cleared to land on the runway on the north side of the field (26R) right next to the Signature. No sooner than we landed and the jet behind us went missed. The wind howled and the rain came down real hard. I secured the plane while the kids and Karrie waited in the FBO for Brandi and Lucy to pick us up. The guy running the FBO offered the kids some snacks before he swept up all the food and carried it away. I thought this was odd until the Atlanta United FC soccer team began rolling in like locusts drinking anything in their path. It was actually sort of funny. The kids had left some of the snacks that the guy had left behind for them and those got snatched up within a minute or two of the first soccer player entering the building.
We drove out of the FBO and Brandi suggested we get some BBQ at “Pit Boss”, a local spot not far from the airport. The food was excellent although they charge for cups of tap water which was new for us. A quick drive to the Lakewood Amphitheater and the kids got to take in Macklemore and Imagine Dragons. Before the concert was all over Violet was ready for her bed and some quality sleep. That’s a lot to ask of a five year old but she kept it together and had a great time.

Diverted to Hartsfield runway 26R.

Sitting on the ramp at Signature after the rain went by.

Some of the best BBQ I have ever eaten.

Brandi’s old stomping grounds.
