OSHKOSH 2021 EDITION 07/20/2024 – 07/25/2024

En route to Oshkosh this year we stopped at Boscobel (KOVS).  Having heard they planned on having a balloon popping event we flew the only RV-10 in among a sea of single and tandem RVs.  Having never seen an event like this take place it was interesting to see the helium balloons get caught in the wingtip vortices.  In one instance we watched a balloon spin from about 50′ high to about 7′ off the ground.  Super cool.  Thanks for inviting us Neil!

After loading up the -10 and Neil’s Yukon with goods from the Piggly Wiggly, we flew to Oshkosh for an uneventful arrival.  When we landed, Neil unloaded a scooter from the cavernous hold in his Murphy.  The scooter made nightly runs offsite to get food.  It was an excellent addition for the year.  We also made use of the Blackstone griddles this year, a first for us.  As is typical we made our way to KidVenture where the kids soldered together radio kits for the first time.  We also went to the opening of the Charles W. Harris Youth Aviation Center (hangar) in the vintage area where the kids got to cut the opening ceremony ribbon and hang out with Aviore.

Another first for us, we took the bus ride to the Seaplane base and enjoyed a pontoon boat ride.  The slowed down pace and calm energy of the seaplane base was a nice break from the main show.  Karrie really enjoyed the serenity of the space.

No trip to Wisconsin would be complete without being woken to the sound of storm warning.  We walked over to the camping pavilion to weather out the storm.  It turned out to be a non event but was enough to get us out of our sleeping bags early.

All in all the trip was excellent.  We had a wonderful time.
