After flying the ’68 Cherokee 140 (no autopilot, steam-gauge ship with a cruise speed around 100 knots) to Oshkosh from Orlando in 2018 I was really excited to take the wife and kids to Oshkosh in the RV-10. We loaded up the plane and took off from Kissimmee. Unfortunately Oshkosh received a bunch of rain and shut down arrivals. During lunch at Bigun’s BBQ in Talking Rock, GA Karrie talked to Brandi in Atlanta and we decided it best to drop back to Atlanta where Brian and Brandi live and spend the night. They were kind enough to find us hangar space and pick us up from their airport. We did hit a little rain after landing but otherwise the flight was uneventful. They are super nice people and we had a great time hanging out at their place. The following day we took off for the north. We stopped in Burlington, WI (KBUU) and got a ride off-field to get some lunch and ice cream. Had a nice walk back to the airport before loading up in the plane to find an airport closer to Oshkosh to setup camp for the night. We found Dodge County (KUNU) and setup the tent. The arrivals were hit or miss into Oshkosh and it seemed best to wait it out for a sure thing. That night we did watch what seemed like a hundred Cessnas depart Dodge County for a mass arrival into Oshkosh. The following morning we got into Oshkosh and got a great spot at the (close) end of a row in homebuilt camping. The kids enjoyed the airshow and had lots of fun at Kidventure. They also enjoyed the EAA museum. All in all our time went really fast and it was time to load up and head home. We stopped by to see some family in Iowa before making the trip back to Florida.

Shortly after we landed in Atlanta the storm moved over the airport and rained a solid rain.

A pit stop in Burlington, WI for lunch and ice cream.

Pleasant walk back to the field KBUU.

Headed enroute (again) to Oshkosh before stopping at Dodge County (KUNU) for the night.

Dodge County Airport (KUNU) camping before Oshkosh arrivals opened up again. The mosquitos are no joke here!

Finally camping at Oshkosh. We had a real nice spot at the end of the row.

Ground was solid and not wet when we got there.

Oshkosh fun!

6 cylinder E-mag in that box getting handed over. Thanks Brad!

Hanging out with Mom at the airshow.

More Oshkosh fun! Making slime in Camp Scholler.
